At a time when the entire state and its people are gripped by sweltering heat, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has created a record by supplying the highest ever 24,926 megawatt power to consumers during the peak hour on Wednesday night.
The Energy department claimed that the state created one record after another in meeting the maximum power demand for almost one week.
Earlier, the peak was on Sunday when 23,419 megawatt (MW) of power was supplied. In comparison, the peak power supply was around 16,000 MW in 2016-17.
In fact, the demand for electricity has increased by more than 7,000 MW from the maximum supply in the last three years.
“From providing 23,419 MW on Sunday, we scaled a new height when we supplied 24,926 MW of power on Wednesday. We have been successful in providing 18 hours of power supply in rural areas, 21 hours 20 minutes in tehsils, 20 hours in Bundelkhand and 24 hours in cities and to industries. For all of this, the power employees should be appreciated for their hard work and dedication and for meeting such steep targets,” Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma said.
As per government records, the UPPCL withdrew 13,977 MW of power against the allotted 13,769 MW, an excess of 208 MW. Besides, it received 10,949 MW electricity from the intra-state pool which made the highest ever power supply in the state.
“With resumption of industry and other activities after withdrawal of Covid restrictions across the state, the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions have also resulted in increased demand of power during the past two days,” a senior UPPCL official said.
