Ready to probe into GB Nagar demolition if asked: Waqf Board

Giving a new twist to the ongoing turmoil over suspension of IAS officer, Durga Shakti Nagpal for demolishing the wall of an under-construction mosque at Kadalpur village,  the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board said it is ready to conduct probe if it gets orders regarding this.

"The board had not been asked to conduct any probe in the issue till now but if it comes from state government,  it will be done as per guidelines," Chairman, UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, Zufar Farooqi told The Pioneer here on Tuesday. The Waqf Board is said to be the custodian of mosques in the state.

Earlier on Monday, when a local committee of Dankaur area, Hazrat Syed Bhureshah Committee gave clean chit to IAS officer, the board denied to support the statement or committee's report. Rubbishing committee's clean chit,  Farooqi said whatever clearance the committee had given to officer was on their personal level, it has no relation with Waqf Board. The affiliation to the board doesn't gives power to any committee to issue statements in behalf of board, he said.

The local committee visited the village and after talking to the locals and some committee members had come to a conclusion that the IAS officer has nothing to do in razing the wall. As reported, the committee also praised that the officer herself extended help to reclaim land belonging to waqf board on which there was encroachment. But she fell victim to sand mining and land mafias having political protection.

It was also said that the committee has sent a report to the state government and demanded to revoke her suspension orders. "We have received not even a single piece of paper or any report from the committee but if they have sent it directly to state government then we have no role to play before government enacts on it," said Chairman.
