Rape Case registered against ACJM in Azamgarh

Published on:

An Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in Azamgarh allegedly sexually assaulted a minor victim of rape inside his chamber on the pretext of recording her statement on-camera on Wednesday.

Surprisingly, despite of disclosure made in this regard by the victim before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in this regard, no case has been registered in the matter but citing Apex Court order, the application of the victim has been forwarded to Alllahabad Bench of High Court for further action. It may be mentioned that an Apex Court ruling came in way of registering criminal case against the members of judiciary and action could be initiated only after a separate enquiry into the matter by the High Court.

Reports said that the girl had come to get her statement recorded before ACJM in Azamgarh in connection with her kidnapping and rape that took place a couple of months ago, on Wednesday.  The judge first asked the brother of the victim and a lady police constable to go out of his chamber and then alleged to have tried to molest the girl.  As per the contents of the victim’s hand written complaint, after molesting her, the Magistrate cautioned her not to tell anyone about what had happened or else he would ruin her life by sending her to jail.

Outraged by the incident, the Azamgarh Bar Association (ABA) lodged a complaint with the district judge against the accused magistrate along with the hand written complaint of the victim, seeking immediate and stringent action against the judicial officer.

Azamgarh Bar Association(ABA), president, Vijay Bahadur said that the district judge has faxed the complaints to the High Court for appropriate action against the erring judge. However, ABA had met in the morning and chalked out the strategy against the crime of a Judge and the role of the police for not registering case against the judge. They had already threatened to boycott the work if action has been not taken. ``The Court is deemed to be temple of justice and if the person sitting on Judges chair is himself involved in such shameful act than the trust of the public on the judicial would end”, claimed one of the agitated lawyer, who was demanding arrest of the accused judge.
