Should legislators have a special quota for appointment of students in State-run polytechnic collegesIJ The question drew divergent views from the Samajwadi Party as leader of Opposition Ram Gobind Chaudhry and senior member of the party Md Azam Khan voicing divergent views.
The situation arose during question hour when Manoj Kumar Pandey (SP) asked whether government will start a special quota for admission of students in the state-run polytechnic colleges. He said as Members of Parliament have special quota for admission of students in Kendriya Vidyalaya, whether state government start same practice for polytechnic colleges.
When Youth, Spots and Skill Development minister Chetan Chauhan answered in negative, leader of Opposition interrupted to say that if Parliament can have similar practice for Kendriya Vidyalaya why cannot state government adopt the same formula in Uttar Pradesh.
As he was pressing with his demand senior SP leader Md Azam Khan said that he was not in favour of this demand. “This will affect the quality of education. You cannot expect a third divisioner to become one day Principal of a technical institution,” he said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said that no decision should be taken which could influence the quality of education. The government is in no position to take any such decision, he said.
Azam Khan however said that legislators should be given a right to recommend admission of meritorious students.
