Raksha Bandhan to strengthen bonds of brotherhood: CM

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday that the festival of Raksha Bandhan was the right opportunity to strengthen the bond of brotherhood in society as it had been threatened in the recent past by vested forces.

“Raksha Bandhan is a festival in which people of all communities and castes strengthen the bonds between the brothers and sisters by tying rakhis. We need to strengthen further this bond as in the recent past efforts have been made to break the bond between different castes and communities in the state,” he said.

Yadav made this remark while speaking at a Raksha Bandhan programme organised by eminent poet and writer Gopal Das Neeraj in the state capital on Saturday. The Chief Minister said that no state or country could develop or prosper without adopting the idea of brotherhood.

“Raksha Bandhan is a festival in which everyone commits to brotherhood. After the celebration of the festival of Eid a few days back, now Raksha Bandhan will certainly affect positively the state’s unity and integrity,” he said.

On the occasion, 10 little girls each from Hindu and Muslim communities tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister. Yadav also lauded the organisation of such programmes by eminent personalities. “If renowned persons come forward to organise such programmes, it will certainly improve the social fabric of society,” he added.

Meanwhile, speaking at a seminar on ‘Social Media for Democracy’ at his residence on Saturday morning, the Chief Minister stressed on using the latest information technology to facilitate all kinds of services and information to the people.

Addressing his ministers, legislators and other officials, Yadav said they could effectively use the social media to forward their programmes and policies as well as work done by them for the welfare of the people along with passing information about development and progress of the state. Yadav said that his Government would use technology and let the government functioning be more transparent through use of social media.
