This time 501 rakhis along with 75 tricolours are being sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the widows living in Vrindavan on the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
Till the last few years, some widows used to visit the prime minister’s residence to tie rakhi to him on Raksha Bandhan. But for the last two years they could not go to tie rakhi to the prime minister due to the COVID-19 crisis. This time the prime minister's office has been contacted and on getting permission, some widows may go to tie rakhi to the prime minister.
The widows living in the ashrams of Vrindavan have prepared special rakhis with images of Narendra Modi and are also sending 75 tricolours to the prime minister along with them.
“Rakhis with colour photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been prepared by the widows living in Maa Sharda and Radha Tila ashrams in Vrindavan,” said Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International.
The widows have decorated the rakhis made by them in two baskets and are sending it to Delhi for the prime minister. These rakhis will be delivered to the PMO by Wednesday.
Vinita Verma, vice-president of Sulabh International, said that earlier, on behalf of thousands of widows, four-five widows used to go to Delhi to tie rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and give him sweets.
