In an attempt to reduce pressure on Charbagh railway station, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has written a letter to Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, urging him to develop the Gomti Nagar railway station as a second railway terminus.

“The Gomti Nagar railway station should be upgraded and trains for Delhi, Jammu (Katra) and Mumbai should be linked through this station in the next three months,” Singh said in his letter, which was released to media persons on Sunday.

Singh is Member of Parliament from lucknow. BJP media in-charge Narendra Singh Rana, who released Singh’s letter, said that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpai had laid the foundation stone of the Gomti Nagar railway terminus in 2003 and in the first phase, Rs 96 crore were released but the work was stopped after a few months.

“The work should be restarted and in the next three months trains to Mumbai, Katra and Delhi should originate from here (Gomti Nagar railway terminus},” Singh said.

The Home Minister also urged the Railway Minister to complete the laying of rail lines of Rakabganj section soon. Singh said the approach road of the subway connecting Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway stations in Charbagh should also be completed in the next three months.

“There is need to construct a maintenance shed for Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) at Gomti Nagar station and efforts should be made to ensure that EMUs from Kanpur also go to Gomti Nagar,” he said.
