Rajnath a weak leader, says Yashwant Sinha

Former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha hit out at the Narendra Modi government for its failure on all counts and said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, contesting from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, was a weak leader.

“Though I have a good relationship with Rajnath Singh as he was the BJP chief twice and a minister with me in the (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee government, but in today’s scenario, he is a weak leader despite being the Union Home Minister. I don’t think he is capable of winning elections,” Sinha said.

The former stalwart of Bharatiya Janata Party who is in the city to campaign for Samajwadi Party candidate from Lucknow and actor-turned politician Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam Sinha, told media persons on Wednesday that the Modi government was skipping all relevant issues of the people and trying to confuse voters on different agenda.

“Demonetisation was the biggest scam of the country in which Rs 3 lakh crore was siphoned off, but the government was silent. The entire government and party leaders were involved. I would like to say that a new government should probe the matter and punish those involved in the scam,” he said.

Talking about the Goods and Services Tax, Sinha said that it had ruined the country’s economy and pushed unemployment to a gargantuan level.

‘’The government is presenting wrong figures of economy to cover up for their lapses. A new government will correct these figures,” Sinha hoped.

The former Union minister also hit out at the Election Commission for its partisan behaviour and for favouring the BJP leaders, saying:  “Now the EC has turned into an Election Commission of Modi.”

The BJP rebel leader also criticised the fielding of Malegaon terror accused Pragya Thakur from Bhopal in the Lok Sabha election.

“Fielding an accused involved in terror act is not acceptable in politics. But I think the BJP has done this just to divide society on communal lines,” Sinha said.
