Rajbhar attacks Akhilesh over reservations

Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, on Thursday, targeted Samajwadi Party over the reservation issue.

He also hinted at joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra being taken out by former president of Congress, Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing media persons here on Thursday evening, SBSP chief Om Prakash Rajbhar said that there was a mix-up in the reservation in the local bodies’ elections. “This amalgamation was done at the district level under the pressure of the local leaders. The officers are directly responsible for this. There has also been a mistake in the delimitation. The government also accepts this,” he said.

Rajbhar said that the SBSP would go to the Supreme Court regarding reservation.  He claimed that the elections may be postponed, but reservation should be given. “We will not allow local bodies’ elections to be held without reservation<” he said.

Rajbhar said that the government had constituted the Backward Classes Commission for reservation but the government should now also see the report of social justice filed in the previous government and reservation should be fixed accordingly.

Commenting on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's statement on the issue of reservation in promotion, the SBSP chief said that reservation in promotion was abolished by the SP government. “On September 4, 2013, the High Court had said in its order that only 12 castes are taking the benefit of 27 per cent reservation for Backward Classes. Yadav, Kurmi and Jat are at the forefront. But, at that time the Samajwadi Party did not remember the most backwards,” he said.

He said that 38 per cent of the population made and spoiled the government.

The SBSP had formed an alliance with the SP for the assembly elections. “We had asked the SP to distribute tickets according to reservation but our point was ignored.  Now I am saying that the government did not represent in the court, so why did he (Akhilesh) not present his lawyer in the court?

Rajbhar also praised the Congress and said that after Independence, no other government had set up as many factories as the Congress government had done. Rajbhar was called by Congress leader Salman Khurshid to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Rajbhar has reportedly called a meeting of office-bearers of the party on coming Saturday to discuss participation in Rahul Gandhi’s yatra.
