After cooling his heels for seven months in jail, senior Congress leader and MlA Ajai Rai was released from Fatehgarh jail (Farukkabad) on Monday morning.

Two former Congress legislators -Rajeshpati Tripathi and Vinod Chaudhury along with other leaders from Varanasi received him as he stepped out of the jail. Rai was jailed after the National Security Act (NSA) was invoked against him on October 7, 2015 for leading a  'Pratikar Rally' in Varanasi  the previous day, which turned violent.

The Allahabad High Court granted bail to Rai on April 29 and it took four days for Rai to come out of the jail after depositing bail bonds.

Speaking to media persons outside the jail, Rai said that he would ummask the unholy alliance among Narendra Modi, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati leading to his incarceration.

Rai was the Congress candidate against Narenda Modi from Varanasi seat in the 2014 lok Sabha polls. He had  also filed an election petition in the Allahabad High Court against the PM for adopting illegal methods to win the polls.
