Witnessing anger of the people of Amethi for not giving ear to their grievances now for a long time, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi finally decided to pay a day-long visit to his Parliamentary constituency in this regard on coming Monday.
He and his sister Priyanka Gandhi besides making several rounds to Amethi and Rae Bareli had also paid a two day visit on last Monday. However, the programme was cut short by one day and Priyanka even not visited Rae Bareli to which not only the local public but also Congress leaders registered their protest.
Sources said that Priyanka might also accompany her brother on Monday so that he could keep her promise of visiting to her mother’s Parliament constituency. It may be also mentioned here that during recent visits of Rae Bareli and Amethi, both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka only concentrated on strengthening the Organisation and not held any meeting with the public to listen to their woes since last Assembly elections.
Their move was said to be influenced by the local public’s non-support to Party’s candidates in last Assembly elections when Congress lost all Assembly seats in Rae Bareli represented in Parliament by Sonia Gandhi while in Amethi, it could save only two of the Assembly segments despite of all out efforts of both Rahul and Priyanka.
According to reports, Rahul will reach Amethi on Monday morning and will later address a public meeting in Jagdishpur area. His representative Chandrakant Dubey confirmed of Rahul Gandhi’s programme on Thursday. Congress vice-president will also take part in some other programmes. Sources said that he is also likely to visit some villages to hold chaupals so that he could once again get direct update on on-going flag-ship programmes of United Progressive Alliance Government as well as feed back of public on recent Food Security Act and land Acquisition Act.
