Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi reacted strongly to Narendra Modi move for dubbing his sister Priyanka’s “neech rajniti” remark and said that the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate is unnecessary trying to polarise the voters on caste and religion line.
“Jaati nahi, karm neech hote hain (It is not caste but ones action that are below norms), he said when asked about the controversy triggered by Priyanka Gandhi’s “neech rajniti” barb at Modi. “Neech soch hoti hai, gusse ki soch hoti hai, Krodh ki soch hoti hai. (It is ideology which is low. There is an ideology of anger,” he said, adding his focus was that more and more people vote and women get empowered.
BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate had on Tuesday played the caste card to counter Priyanka’s attack and questioned whether belonging to a low caste was a crime. “Is it a crime to be born in backward casteIJ Did I insult anyone despite being born in a backward casteIJ Such a dirty blame has been put on me,” Modi had said. Priyanka had on Monday hit out at Modi, saying he has insulted her “martyred” father Rajiv Gandhi during his speech in Amethi and accused BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate of indulging in “low-level” politics.
When asked that Modi criticized him and even went on to claim Amethi as most backward district of UP, Rahul, who was dismissive about attack on him and his family replied “I would be very worried if someone like Narendra Modiji was praising me.” Rahul, while touring Amethi during polling, also made light of rally held by the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate in his constituency two days back, saying “it was a non challenge”. Dismissive about impact of Modi’s rally in Amethi, he said, “There is a long term relationship here and its a very deep relationship.”
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi has appealed to the people of Amethi to come out of their houses to vote.  ‘Youths should lead in voting as they are the future of the country,’he said. On the other hand leaving aside the set traditions, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wedneday reached Amethi just as the polling started this morning.  Gandhi who is engaged in a toughest ever elections in Amethi against BJP’s Smriti Irani and AAP candidate Kumar Vishwas, rushed to his constituency from where he is expecting a hat trick win. In the past two elections Priyanka was the polling agent of Rahul Gandhi in Amethi but this could not happen this time due to the change in the norms by the EC.
