Rahul Gandhi holds rally in Bareilly

Even as Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel foiled attempts by party workers to come near Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi at a roadshow in Breilly, Rahul took on the ruling SP ministers for ‘patronising’ criminals leading to a sharp dip in law and order.

During the roadshow, some Congress workers tried to hand over a memorandum to Rahul but were promptly prevented by the SPG personnel. This led to a sharp exchange of words between the two sides. A day before in Sitapur, a youth had thrown a shoe at Rahul which missed the target.

A local Congress leader also tried to force his way into Rahul’s bus but the SPG again foiled his attempt which again resulted in  a scuffle.

In course of the road show, the Amethi MP visited a temple and a gurdwara in Cantonment area. He also visited Ala Hazrat dargah and addressed meetings where he attacked PM Narendra Modi and alleged that he ‘only served the interests of industrialists’.

Earlier, interacting with students of Rohilkhand University at Bareilly on Wednesday morning, Rahul charged, “law and order has gone beyond the ruling dispensation. Crimes have spiralled due to patronage to criminals by ministers and ruling party MlAs.”

Girl students of the varsity told the Gandhi scion that they did not feel safe as hooligans and eve-teasers harassed them regularly.             In response, Rahul admitted, “The law and order situation in the state has hit the rock bottom. What else can one expect in this jungle raj unleashed by the Samajwadi Party politicians IJ”

Further attacking the ruling SP, the Congress leader said, “The cycle’s (SP election symbol) wheel is stuck. It has become immobile. As a result, UP’s development has come to a grinding halt. Besides, the government does not know how to run hospital, education or carry out development. But it very well knows how to exact money from contractors.”

Upon reaching Rampur on Wednesday evening, Rahul was given a warm welcome by the public and Congress leaders at Ambedkar Park.

During a meeting at Chamraua area, the Congress VP accused the PM of not embracing the farmers and not listening to their woes.

``AfterI took out the Yatra to raise farmers’ voice, Modiji has suddenly become interested in this direction and decided to interact with farmers, but only through the internet. A farmer’s son should also get the same opportunity to became a doctor or engineer as any other student from any other background,” Rahul pointed out.

Attacking Modi further for making cow ‘an election issue’ Rahul slammed the BJP and RSS for doing politics in the name of protection of cows. “During my ongoing Kisan Yatra from Deoria to Dilli, I have seen the plight of cows roaming on the streets and and dying unattended with no one to take care,” he said.

Accusing Modi of not fulfilling pre-poll promises, Rahul stressed, “It is only the Congress that keeps its promise. It waived off loans when it was in power atthe Centre. If my party comes to to power, the farmers’ issues raised by the party would be addressed effectively.”
