In a blunt attack on the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress vice president alleged that he helped Adani with getting 45000 acres of farmers land at Rs one per square meter in Gujrat. Addressing an election rally at the Anglo Bengali Inter College ground here,on Monday, Rahul said that Gujrat still lacked the required number of RTI commissioners and lokayukta which was the reason why ‘Gujrat Ka Chowkidar’ (Modi) was out of jail.
The Modi government in Gujrat benefited Adani with Rs 8,000 crore which was more than it spent on medicines, education and schools in the state. Modi wished to become Chowkidar (watchman) of the country which was dangerous because there was high chance of loot when there was only one watchman, he said adding that he wanted people to become Chowkidar and watch over corruption.
In his address to a moderate crowd, interrupted by Ajan from a nearby mosque, Rahul hit out hard against Modi, claimed that India attained highest progress under UPA regime, and promised free medical care, housing and guaranteed pension to the elderly persons in the country.
Sticking to his attack on ‘Gujrat Ka Chowkidar, Rahul also criticized Modi for saying that he wanted to give power to the women. There was no need to give power to women as they had it what was needed Modiji was to give Izzat to them, Rahul said accusing that Gujrat police chased women on the roads and tapped their phones.
Modi says that he will eradicate corruption but it was Congress that gave RTI and worked for lokayukta while he himself opposed appointments of RTI commissioner and lokayukta in Gujrat. If there was a lokayukta in Gujrat Modi would be behind the bars, he commented.
If the Congress formed the next government in the country, I promise that getting the Women s Reservation Bill passed in the Parliament will be its first priority. We will also provide 25 reservation to women in the police forces. The country was backward because the potential and power of the women was yet to be tapped to the full potential, he said. Modi says that we did not do anything in the last 60 years, he says that the people of India did nothing but the Congress led UPA helped 10 crore people to go over the poverty line. Rahul promised that if the Congress was voted to power once again, then it will work for turning the 70 crore poor people into the middle class of the country. The elections were a matter of differences of views and while the Congress was leading the fight of the poors, there were parties that were seeking power from their caste and communal agenda, he added.
