Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Tuesday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, claiming that there is a competition between the two to show who is a bigger Hindutvavadi and a greater Hindu devotee.
She alleged that the leaders of both these parties are neglecting people of other religions in violation of the Constitution.
The former UP chief minister said that apart from Hindus, people of other religions like Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis, etc also live in India and all the parties should give them equal respect and attention.
Along with this, all the historical places should be kept safe because historical places are also being tampered with these days, she added.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday afternoon, Mayawati further said that Dalits and tribals are being persecuted in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.
“The BSP will raise this issue in the upcoming assembly elections. Will make the public aware about this,’’ she said, adding that the party has already appointed national coordinator Akash Anand and chief coordinator Ram Ji Gautam, and will decide upon a strategy to expose the two parties in the above-mentioned states.
It may be mentioned that the Bahujan Samaj Party chief is not happy after being isolated among the opposition parties.
Recently, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar visited Uttar Pradesh and met former chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, but kept a distance from the BSP.
The Aam Aadmi Party sought support from the Samajwadi Party to protest against the ordinance brought by the Centre to give control over Delhi administration back to the Lieutenant-Governor.
Kejriwal and Yadav fiercely attacked the BJP and tried their best to convey that they were mobilising against the saffron party. Kejriwal neither met BSP chief Mayawati nor sought her support.
Before this, Nitish Kumar had also visited Lucknow and met only Akhilesh Yadav. He neither made any contact with Mayawati nor did he make any comment regarding the BSP.
Sources said that the other opposition parties are maintaining distance from the BSP as they took it as a ‘B-team’ of the saffron party.
