ADG (Prosecution) Ashutosh Pandey said in Lucknow on Tuesday that between October 19 and 20, 23 accused involved in crime against fairer sex got life terms and 31 were punished with cash fine for the crime.

Earlier on Monday, the ADG had said that the government’s efforts in this direction ensured death penalty for 14 accused in 11 cases of crime against women in the last one year.

“Death penalty is a rarity. However, prompt prosecution resulted in a large number of convictions along with death sentences. Efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have led us to improve and strengthen our system, ensuring speedy justice to female victims,” he said.

Pandey further said that due to government efforts, 14 sexual offenders were served death sentences, 11 got life imprisonment and eight were served with imprisonment and fines. “Similarly, in 88 cases, bails of 117 accused were cancelled due to effective perusal by the Prosecution department and 41 offenders were externed from their home districts for six months,” he said.

Pandey clarified that the trial of cases in which death penalty was served was completed along with other cases. He said the state topped in uploading details of prosecution on e-prosecution portal of the Government of India.

“We have been able to perform well because of real-time monitoring work of all 2,000 prosecutors through e-prosecution sites in the state and continuous video-conferencing,” the ADG (Prosecution) said.
