After holding big rallies in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s citadel Gorakhpur, Congress will now tap western Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand regions by holding two huge rallies in Meerut and Mahoba, respectively.

All prominent Congress leaders, including party’s UP incharge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will be present in these rallies scheduled for later this month.

“After eastern Uttar Pradesh, Congress will now demonstrate its strength in western Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand this month,” disclosed a veteran Congress leader who at present is spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

“Big rallies will be held in Mahoba, the land of heroes, and Meerut in the National Capital Region,” he confirmed, adding that all the big leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, would be present in these rallies.

The dates of the rallies will also be formally released in a day or two, he claimed.

Besides the above, there were plans to hold big rallies in every division, he said, adding that instructions had been given to prepare for the rally in Meerut and Mahoba in November.

Local party leaders have been asked to bring workers and Congress supporters from the nyaya panchayat level to these rallies.

Meanwhile, Congress has sought proposals from leaders and workers willing to contest the assembly elections. So far, on an average 10 applications have been received for each assembly seat. The deadline for submitting the application has been extended to November 15 so more applications are expected to come.

Particularly, there is talk of more applications from women, because Congress has announced that 40 per cent tickets will be given to women. The party has already given instructions to all the ticket seekers to deposit Rs 11,000 in the party's account. Each application of the ticket seekers must be accompanied by the deposit slip.

UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu also started zone-wise meetings with Congress officials here on Monday. In the meetings, the vice-president, general secretary and secretary of each zone will be present. The upcoming election programmes will be discussed with them and a strategy to make them successful will also be chalked out.
