Priyanka slams govt for the death of kids due to viral fever

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at the Yogi Adityanath regime over the loss of lives due to viral fever in Uttar Pradesh and questioned the state government whether it had not learnt any lesson from the “horrific consequences” of its “disastrous management” of the second wave of COVID-19 in the state.

The death toll due to dengue and viral fever has climbed to 50 in Firozabad district while neighbouring districts like Agra, Mathura, Kasganj and others have also reported several cases of illness, especially among children.

After Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Firozabad to take stock of the situation recently, the chief medical officer of the district was shifted. Health officials suspect that Firozabad and Mathura are becoming hotspots of the spread of dengue.

On Friday, Priyanka tweeted, “The news of over 100 lives being lost to a viral fever in Uttar Pradesh needs immediate attention. Has the Uttar Pradesh government not learnt any lessons from the horrific consequences of its disastrous Covid management during the second wave?”

Holding the state government responsible for the deaths caused by a mysterious viral fever in the state, the Congress top leader accused the Yogi government of not taking necessary steps to strengthen the healthcare system across the state.

Citing a media report that highlighted the mystery virus wreaking havoc in several districts, Priyanka questioned, "Look at the condition of hospitals. Is this your Number 1 facility for treatment? All possible resources should be directed towards providing healthcare to the affected and taking adequate precautions to prevent the disease from spreading.”
