Priyanka hits out at UP govt over deaths in panchayat polls

Published on:

Congress general secretary and incharge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the Yogi Adityanath on the lapses on part of his government on controlling  the pandemic and holding panchayat polls that claimed the lives of more than 700 teachers during and after discharging poll duties.

In a tweet posted on Saturday, Priyanka said, “What is happening in UP is nothing less than a crime against humanity and the SEC, UP is playing along. Over 700 teachers have died in Uttar Pradesh, including a pregnant woman, who was forced to attend polling duty for the Panchayat elections. These elections have been conducted in almost 60,000 gram sabhas of the state without any thought of the catastrophic onslaught of the second Corona wave.”

The Congress leader  said that meetings were conducted, campaigning continued and the spread of COVID in UP’s villages is now unstoppable and people were  dying in numbers far, far above the deceitful official figures.

“People are dying in homes across rural UP, and these deaths are not being counted as COVID because people aren’t being tested. The government’s actions are designed to cover up the truth and terrorise both the public and the medical community, which is working tirelessly to save lives,” she charged.
