Priyanka hits out at PM for ‘protecting a criminal’

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made a targeted attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not sacking Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son, Ashish, is among those accused of mowing down four farmers and a journalist in Tikunia area of Lakhimpur Kheri, and said that carefully curated spectacles of piety and wearing religious attire would not change the fact that he was protecting a criminal.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Priyanka posted, "The government's refusal to sack Ajay Mishra Teni is the starkest indication of its moral bankruptcy. @narendramodi ji, carefully curated spectacles of piety and wearing religious attire will not change the fact that you are protecting a criminal. Ajay Mishra Teni should be sacked and charged in accordance with the law."

Opposition parties have renewed the demand for dismissal of the Union minister of state for home after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) told the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Lakhimpur Kheri that the killing of four farmers and a journalist was a “pre-planned conspiracy”.

On Wednesday, top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also demanded removal of Ashish Mishra Teni from the Union cabinet.
