Priyanka extends support to farmers, likens farm laws to demon

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday termed the new laws as a demon and assured the farmers full support in their fight to the finish.
“Do not take a single step back, carry on your fight against these black farm laws,” Vadra said while assuring the farmers full support in their fight till the new laws are withdrawn.
Addressing the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ in Saharanpur on Wednesday afternoon, Vadra claimed that this demon would take the lives of farmers. “These laws will only facilitate the corporate friends of the prime minister and open the doors of hoarding. The Congress will immediately abolish these black farm laws and introduce a bill for the minimum support price if it comes to power,” Vadra said.
Making a direct attack on PM Narendra Modi, Vadra claimed that now no one would believe in his words. “At the time of election campaign, Modi had said that he would solve all the problems of cane growers and clear their dues to the tune of Rs 15,000 crore, but he never fulfilled his words. The government purchased two aircraft worth Rs 16,000 crore each for Modi but did not clear your dues,” she said, claiming that that PM is more interested in his comfort and least bothered about farmers’ woes.
She pointed towards Rs 20,000 crore spent on the beautification of New Delhi and also took a jibe at the ‘56 inches’ slogan of the BJP, claiming that Modi may have a big chest but a very small heart.
“The hearts of farmers beat for the people and this country but Modi’s heart only beats for his corporate friends,” she said.
Attacking the BJP, Vadra reminded the farmers that they (BJP leaders) called those staging dharna on Delhi’s border terrorists and anti-nationals.
“Even Narendra Modi called the farmers ‘Andolanjivis’. He must explain its meaning,” Vadra said, claiming that a person who could not recognise the feelings of the farmers could never be a true patriot.
“The farmers have been sitting on the Delhi border for the last 78 days, but the prime minister has no time to meet them and hear their issues,” she said.
Pointing towards the disinvestment of LIC, BPCL etc, Vadra accused the PM of selling the nation. “You should not have any hope from a person who is busy selling the nation,” Vadra alleged. He told the farmers that the government is trying to weaken their agitation by dividing them on the lines of religion and caste.
Earlier, the Congress leader also visited Shakumbhari Devi Temple where she offered prayers and took blessings of the goddess. She is now likely to have a dialogue with farmers in Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar on February 13. The Congress had earlier extended its full support to the call for ‘chakka jam’ last week
Section 144 was imposed in Saharanpur district on Wednesday due to various reasons, including the upcoming festive season, Covid-19 pandemic and law & order issues. The restrictions have been imposed till April 5.
