Priyanka asks people to vote out anti-farmer, anti-poor govt

Published on:

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party government, calling it anti-farmer, anti-people and anti-poor.

She asked the voters to throw out Yogi Adityanath from power and install a Congress government so that they could get much better governance.

The Congress general secretary said, “Farmers stood on the border of Delhi for a year, 700 farmers were martyred and six farmers were crushed by a minister's son yet these (BJP) people kept quiet. The prime minister did not even ask the farmers what is your problem.”

“What was the need to ‘kill’ 700 farmers to take the law back? Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi used to go to the victims when they were prime ministers. They used to follow their raj dharma, serve the people, but BJP's religion is just to fight elections in the name of caste and religion,” she added.

Targeting the BJP, Priyanka said that the government was not giving dues of sugarcane farmers while airplanes were being bought for the prime minister.

On the second day of her Rae Bareli tour, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed several street meetings in Jagatpur,  Babuganj, Unchahar, Gangaganj, Gaura,  Bachhrawan, Maharajganj, along with road shows  from Degree College to Tripula Tirahe making  appeal to vote for Congress candidates.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also participated in the public meeting in Bachhrawan with Priyanka and appealed to the people vote the Congress to power in Uttar Pradesh. He said that it was clear from the voting in three phases that people had made up their mind to throw out the Yogi Adityanath government and send him back to the Math in Gorakhpur.

The Congress general secretary said that only the Congress fought against injustice done to the poor. “The responsibility of the government does not end by giving gas cylinders, ration sacks, and a small amount of money. People's stomachs are not going to be filled with hate and free politics,” she said.

Targeting the BJP, she said that farmers were not getting fertilisers as almost all government centres for distribution of fertilisers were closed while private distribution centres were open.

She said that all leaders knew that they would come after five years, talk about religion, raise people’s spirit, talk about castes and get vote but no one realized that if they did not work, if they did not give employment, then they would not get votes.

“All kinds of skills are present in Uttar Pradesh but youth are unemployed. Farmers are worried. Women are being oppressed. Traders are upset. What's the problem? Why is this happening? Because the politics that is in front of you only works to mislead you. Everyone understands that if they ask for votes in the name of religion and caste, they will get your vote. They will grow, they will flourish and flourish. The great friends, industrialists, will flourish. They have to stay in power. Their goal is to remain in power at any condition,” Priyanka asserted.

Targeting Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka said, “Since three years that I have been working in UP not once did I see Akhilesh Yadav leave his house on the issues of the people. Three months before the election, suddenly the bus came out and the journey started, on what basis did does he ask for votes? Same, on the basis of polarisation. In three years, when women were raped, crimes were committed against them, neither Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati nor Akhilesh were seen.”
