With an eye on the Dalit vote bank, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with her brother Rahul Gandhi will attend Ravidas Jayanti programmee in Varanasi on Wednesday.
Congress sources said in Lucknow on Tuesday that Congress leaders will reach Varanasi at around 11:30 am on Wednesday and offer prayers at Seer Goverdhanpur, Varanasi and have 'prasad' with the devotees there. After staying there for about 90 minutes, Priyanka will leave for Kanpur for a roadshow in support of party candidates and Rahul will go to New Delhi.
On Wednesday, Priyanka will go for a door-to-door campaign at Kanpur Cantonment and Kidwai Nagar Assembly segments in Kanpur between 1 pm and 3 pm. Later she will go for a door-to-door campaign at Sisamau and Arya Nagar Assembly segments from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. Before winding up her campaigning, Priyanka will also attend Mahila Shakti Garjana programme at Govindnagar in Kanpur.
Meanwhile, former MLA and Congress leader Nadeem Javed will now contest from Jaunpur Assembly seat replacing district Congress chief Faisal Tabrez Hassan. Releasing a party statement on Tuesday, the UPCC stated, “The Central Election Committee has approved the candidature of Nadeem Javed (in place of Faisal Tabrez Hassan) as Congress candidate for the ensuing general elections to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from 366- Jaunpur Assembly constituency.”
