Priyanka: BJP govt suppressing people’s voice against CAA

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra once again targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party government on Saturday, accusing it of being dictatorial and suppressing people’s voice against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens.

Priyanka also condemned the arrest of students, intellectuals, journalists and social workers across the country and termed it as a means to crush their voice.

“The NRC and the CAA are against the Indian Constitution and the citizens of the country would not allow any such attack. The government is bent upon using force and violence against protesters to silence them,” the Congress leader said in a statement.

Priyanka, who is in-charge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh where a maximum 16 deaths have been reported during protests against the CAA, also appealed to the people to follow the path of non-violence and truth to protect the Constitution.

She said that the Congress firmly believed on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi in which there was no place for vandalism or violence.

Meanwhile in Lucknow, UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar ‘Lallu’ tried to seek an audience with Governor Anandiben Patel to submit a memorandum demanding her intervention in getting the CAA withdrawn and direction to the government to stop harassing innocent people demonstrating peacefully against the amended citizenship law. However, Lallu failed to get appointment on Saturday.

A Congress delegation comprising Vinod Mishra, Maroof Khan, Vinod Mishra, Mukesh Singh Chauhan and other leaders also visited various hospitals of the city to enquire about those injured in the protest against the CAA and extend the party’s support to them.

The delegation also demanded compensation for the families of those who died during protests against CAA across the state, including two youths in Lucknow.
