President Ram Nath Kovind will lay the foundation stone of the state’s first Ayush University named Mahayogi Guru Gorakshanath Uttar Pradesh State Ayush University at Pipri-Tarkulha village in Bhahat block of Gorakhpur on Saturday.

President Kovind will also inaugurate Guru Gorakhnath University run by Goraksha Peeth at Sonbarsa Maniram and he will be accompanied by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the historic occasion.

This will probably be the first occasion when the President of India will be inaugurating two universities in a district on the same day. Based on the ideas of social service and self-reliance, the two new universities will give Purvanchal a new distinctive identity and play a vital role in making Gorakhpur the ‘City of Knowledge’.

Besides, the President will inaugurate a nursing college building of the state-of- the-art Mahant Digvijaynath Ayurveda Hospital, Ayurved college building, Maa Pateshwari hostel for girl nursing students and Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath guest house.

Earlier on December 10, 2018, President Ram Nath Kovind, while participating in the Foundation Week celebrations of Maharana Pratap Education Council as the chief guest during his visit to Gorakhpur, had expressed interest in establishing Gorakhpur as the ‘City of Knowledge’ by 2032 on the institution’s centenary year. Since then, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been working on the idea of opening more universities and institutes in Gorakhpur.

With the addition of these universities, Gorakhpur will be home to four universities. Gorakhpur boasts of reputed institutes like Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University and Madan Mohan Malviya Technological University.

Three of the four universities, which are now going to be established in Gorakhpur, are affiliated to Goraksha Peeth. Of the two new universities, Guru Gorakhnath University, Sonbarsa Maniram, has been established by Goraksha Peeth for public service. Goraksha Peeth has been working in the field of education for the last nine decades. The Guru Gorakhnath University will start with a BAMS course with 100 seats and later add 30 more world-class courses.
