Preventing muslims from religious duty not good: Khan

The minority affairs minister Azam Khan shot off a angry letter to the director general of police accusing him of playing host to the communal elements while preventing the muslims from discharging their religious duty of animal scrifice on the day of Bakrid.

Azam Khan charged that by not taking against those spreading hate against the muslims,   the police is not only encouraging but extending tacit support  to the communal forces.

Azam Khan accused the state police of discriminating against the muslims. He alleged that despite the blatant violation of the government’s order on the use of DJs by the kanwariyas during the Sawan Yatra no action was taken against them while muslims are being prevented from excerising their constitutional right and performing their religious duty of sacrificing the animal on the day of Bakrid.

The minister has taken serious exception of the ban imposed on animal sacrifice on the day of Bakrid by the district administration in one village under Mehdaval tehsil of  Sant kabir nagar district. This year Bakrid is falling on September 25.The ban was imposed  eight years ago following the communal riots in the village over animal sacrifice . For the last eight years the sacrifical goats in the village are impounded by the police and released two days after Bakrid.

“The state government had imposed ban on the use of the DJs by the Kanwariyas during the Sawan Yatra. The orders were flouted with impunirty. Instead of taking action against those indulging in vandalism, the police was not only helpless, it played the role of grand host to those creating trouble for the law and order’’, charged the minister.

“You still have the time to take adequate measures to ensure that the poor people are not deprived of excerising their constitutional right to perfoprm animal sacrifice. Being the head of the state police force its your responsibility’’, said Azam Khan.
