After the resignation of Bharatiya Janata Party state president Dharampal Singh Chaudhary from the Yogi Adityanath council of ministers, pressure is on four more ministers who are holding two posts -- in government as well as in the party organisation – to quit one of them.
JPS Rathore, Baby Maurya, Dayashankar Singh, and AK Sharma are ministers in the Yogi government and are still holding party posts.
JP Rathore is party’s general secretary and holds the portfolio of Co-operative Department, while former Governor of Uttarakhand Baby Maurya is vice-president of the party and Cabinet minister in the Women and Child Development Department. Retired bureaucrat AK Sharma is vice-president of the party and holds the important portfolio of Urban Development and Energy departments. Transport Minister in the Yogi Government Dayashankar Singh is also vice-president of the party.
“All the four should have resigned when they took charge as minister in March, this year but as party state president Swatantra Dev Singh joined the Yogi Adityanath cabinet as Jal Shakti Minister, they decided to continue,” a senior BJP leader told ‘The Pioneer’ on Friday.
He said now pressure must be on these four BJP ministers as the new state party president Dharampal Singh Chaudhary resigned the very next day from the Yogi government after officially taking charge of his party post. Chaudhary was Panchayati Raj Minister in the Yogi government.
“As per the constitution of the BJP, a leader can hold only one post – either in the government or in the party organisation. Thus it is mandatory for these leaders to quit one post,” the leader said.
