President seat to be filled in IAS association

As Uttar Pradesh IAS Association grapples to find its new president, the much-awaited IAS Week started on Thursday at low key with flower shows and small get together.

As the pace of celebrations picks up pace from Friday onwards, the association has started looking for its next president. Senior most IAS officer, who is also Chairman of the Revenue Board, is generally nominated as the President. This is standard practice in Uttar Pradesh.

“The association finds itself in a catch 22 situation now. Senior most officer Javed Usmani has taken VRS from IAS service and would take oath as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) in coming few days. Now, who can be the next president of the association remains to be seen,” a senior official told The Pioneer here on Thursday.

Many names are taking round. One of them could be Vijay Shankar Pandey, who is posted in Board of Revenue for last four years. Another name could be V.N. Garg. As he is set to retire on March 31 the members may look for another name who has at least a year’s service left.

“Wait till Annual General meeting when members will chose new president,” the official said. The IAS Week will be officially kicked off on Friday with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s address to the IAS officers. Service issued will be discussed in the AGM in which members might demand a longer posting on one post.

“It is mandatory that transfer of IAS officer should be carried out after a proposal from establishment board. But this practice is hardly followed. The members might demand a longer posting,” the official said.

Meanwhile, on Thursday flower show was organized and paintings and pictures clocked by the serving officers and their family members were put on display in CSI club. Painting competition was also organised for the children. “The show starts Friday after this solemn start,” Dipak Trivedi, organizing secretary said.
