A 30-year-old pregnant woman was killed by her lover and his friends in Meerut.
The killing took place last Sunday and four of the accused were arrested on Wednesday, police on Thursday said.
According to reports, the victim, identified as Rambiri alias Reena, was married to one Arun of Teharki village in 2015. Later, she fell in love with one Adesh and became pregnant.
A police official said that Rambiri had started exerting pressure on Adesh to marry her. “Fed up of the constant demand, Adesh hatched a plan with his friends to kill her,” the official added.
The cops claimed that Rambiri was strangled to death after being hit on the head when she had gone to collect fodder in a field at Khirwa Nauabad in Sardhana near Meerut.
The incident took place last Sunday, following which the police launched a probe. The report stated that the post-mortem report revealed that Rambiri was over one month pregnant.
Rambiri’s mother, Surendri, informed police that her daughter was married to Arun in Teharki village in 2015. However, the couple decided to separate a year later and Rambiri started living with her parents.
According to a report, it was at her maternal home that Rambiri met Adesh. The mother claimed that Rambiri got pregnant and started pressuring Adesh to get married. It was then that Adesh hatched a plan to kill her.
The local police said that four other accused in the case, identified as Deepak, Aryan, Sandeep and Rohit, were also in their custody and further investigation was underway to implicate all the accused, including Adesh, and send them to jail.
