Power supply in Uttar Pradesh got exposed

The claims of UP Power minister Shrikant Sharma about improved power supply in Uttar Pradesh were exposed by another minister when he wrote a letter to him about deteriorating power supply saying people are angry over truant power supply.

The Excise and Prohibition Minister Jai Pratap Singh wrote a letter to Power Minister on July 19 saying that power situation in Sidharthnagar district is deteriorating with every passing day. “Despite your and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s assurance that power supply will improve situation is very bad in Sidharthnagar,” he said in his one-page letter.

“People are angry because of continuous disruption in power supply in rural and urban areas of the city. This is bringing a bad name to the Government. Corrective measures should be taken immediately so that power could be supplied as per the roster,” Singh said in his letter.

Singh belongs to Sidharthnagar and represents Bansi constituency.

The Yogi government has claimed improvement in power supply after BJP came to power. It even said that district headquarters are being given 24 hour of electric supply followed by 20 hours in Bundelkhand and Tehsil and 18 hours in rural areas.

In the ongoing budget session the issue was raised by opposition parties and there too Power Minister Shrikant Sharma claimed improvement in power supply as compared to previous Samajwadi Party. “The electricity is being supplied as the roster declared by the Government,” Sharma has said in the assembly early this week.

The Minister’s letter has taken the wind out of Power Minister’s claim.  In fact the situation is bad all over the state. No district headquarters anywhere in UP except lucknow is getting 24 hour electricity.

“We have inherited a rotten system. We do not have a magic wand to improve power scenario. We need some time to improve power scenario,” Sharma had said.
