Power Consumers Forum demands to take action against four power distribution companies

Power Consumers Forum has demanded from the power regulator - UP State Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPSERC) to take action against four power distribution companies (subsidiaries of UP Power Corporation limited) for their poor performance.

The Union government had assigned a study to Power Finance Corporation for rating of power distribution companies (discoms) in public and private sectors across states as per their performance in bringing down line loss and realisation of revenue from consumers.  The performance of all four discoms of UP was found to be in the negative.

A Forum delegation met Chairman of UPSEC, DD Verma on Monday and demanded action against the discoms since the latter had received the report from Power Finance Corporation.

“The discoms have been claiming good technical and financial performance in the last one decade but the PFC report has exposed their false claims. The UPSEC should direct the discoms to improve performance instead of asking for a hike in power tariff every year,” maintained the Forum.

Confirming that the UPSERC has received the report which was very disappointing, its chairman DD Verma said that appropriate action will betaken after thoroughly analysing the report.
