Poll officials acts as party workers: pathak

Alleging a large scale rigging in the second phase of Panchayat election Bharatiya Janata party said that ruling Samajwadi Party leaders violated model code of conduct by taking law in their hands.

There are reports of persecution of BJP workers particularly in those districts where relatives of ministers and senior ruling party functionaries are in fray. They beat up BJP workers while the police remained a mute spectator,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in a statement issued here on Tuesday. He said the reports of violence from Meerut, Faizabad, Farrukhabad, Baghpat, Aligarh, Mainpuri and Jaunpur reflects how the police sided with the ruling party leaders.

This shows the officials at the village level were acting as party workers, Pathak said. To buttress his point he said that in Faizabad a minister’s son is allegedly involved in thrashing of a candidate while in Pratapgarh SP workers have attacked polling team in Sansarpur in Prapagarh under the directives of a senior minister. In Allahabad BDC candidates clashed with each other.

“It is the responsibility of the ruling party to ensure free and fair election. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should issue directives to his ministers, legislators and party workers not to take law in their hands,” he said.
