The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has directed election observers to reach the district allotted to them by Saturday evening and take stock of the preparations made in the district for the second phase of urban local bodies elections.
Polling for the second phase of urban local bodies elections in 38 districts will be held on May 11.
State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar said here on Friday that the observers had been directed to furnish information to the SEC about the preparations for the polling made in the district. He said the election observers had been directed to tour the district and visit polling stations to ensure free and fair conduct of the elections.
He said if the observers came across any major problem they should immediately bring this to the notice of the SEC.
The observers have also been directed to supervise the preparations made for the counting of votes on May 13. They have been asked to leave the district only after the completion of the counting of votes.
