Police station turns torture rooms: Pathak

Hitting out at Samajwadi Party Government the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party said that under present government the police stations have turned into torture rooms where people who refuse to tow police line are killed.

“Recently in Mehmoodabad (in Sitapur) a person was tortured to death in police custody and on Sunday night a dalit was killed in Dewa police station in Barabanki. The killing led to rioting in which police used force against irate mob,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak told reporters here on Monday.

He last month a woman was set afire in Kothi police station in Barabanki when she refused to oblige policemen there. “Chief Minister has ordered a probe into the matter but the bigger question is as why torture in police custody is continuing,” he said.

“In all the custody death police claims that the victims have committed suicide. Police say that a 6 ft tall youth has committed suicide by hanging from a roof which is 51/2 feet high. How this is possible,” he asks

BJP spokesman said that UP police is infamous in killing innocent during investigation. In May this year police bring Dipak Sahu for interrogation in Majhwara police station in lalitpur. It tortures the innocent man who dies. In June Shakil was tortured to death in Ghaziabad. Similar incidents are reported from Bareilly and Fatehpur.

“CM should answer as why UP police has such a de-humanizing character. Why it kills the people and later terms it a suicide,” Pathak said.
