The failure of the Moradabad police in checking sexual harassment by a local goon forced a 15-year-old student to end her life by jumping off the terrace of her house in Moradabad on Saturday.
The victim's family charged that the Class X student was constantly being harassed on her way to school by the goon for over a year and the police did nothing to stop the indecent acts which led her to take the extreme step.
As per reports, a local goon identified as Jatin used to molest and make sexual overtures at the minor girl on her way to school for over several months in Kanshiram Nagar Colony in Majhola area of Moradabad.
The victim’s family had complained to the local police several times which failed to spur the men in khaki to initiate action against the offender. Last week too, the kin had approached the police.
But only after the girl took the drastic step on Saturday, the police arrested the accused after she succumbed during treatment in a local hospital on Sunday.
The victim suffered numerous fractures on her body and was taken to a private hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The police arrested the accused and now an investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, two minor girls were raped in Firozabad and Bijnor respectively.
In Firozabad, a 14-year-old girl was raped by three men in a village on Diwali night. The victim was forcibly taken to an agricultural field by the rapists when she was lighting lamps outside her house on Thursday. The girl was found late in the night and after she narrated her ordeal, her family members lodged an FIR against Dharmveer, Naresh and Ashish on Sunday. All three accused were arrested on Monday and the statement of the victim was recorded.
In Bijnor, a six-year-old girl was raped by a 26-year-old youth at Mirzapur village in Mandwali police station area on Saturday. The accused, identified as Shahbaz, was subsequently arrested by the police.
The miscreant lured the victim from her school to a dilapidated building and sexually assaulted her. After returning home, the victim narrated her harrowing ordeal before her parents. Later an FIR was registered against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and he was arrested on Sunday.
Meanwhile the Etawah police on Sunday arrested an inspector posted in Mahoba for allegedly raping a woman over the last year. The police invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused as the complainant was reportedly younger than 18 years when the crime occurred.
In her complaint to the police, the woman said that she came in contact with the inspector when he was posted in Etawah while she had gone to a police station to file a complaint of harassment against her in-laws. The victim said that on the pretext of helping her, the cop took her to a hotel in Etawah and raped her. In January, the inspector was transferred to Mahoba but whenever he visited Etawah, he used to call the victim to a hotel and sexually assault her.
The woman complained to the superintendent of police of Etawah over a week ago and claimed that she did not come forward earlier since the inspector had clicked some objectionable photographs of her and threatened to circulate them if she went public with the accusations.
An enquiry was later ordered and based on its findings, an FIR was registered.
