A 22-year-old youth was lynched by his lover’s family in the name of saving ‘honour’ in Azamgarh, while police inaction in a sexual harassment case forced a young victim to end her life in Firozabad.
In Azamgarh, Manish Kumar Ram (22) of Chewta hamlet of Kaptanganj was in love with his neighbour Anita. When the family members of Manish learnt about it, they sent him to Ghaziabad during lockdown.
On Sunday, Manish returned to the village upon learning that Anita’s marriage had been fixed with another youth and was scheduled next month.
Late Tuesday midnight, Manish slipped out from his home and went to meet his lover at her house. While the couple were chatting, Anita’s family heard them and barged into her room. The kin later nabbed Manish, dragged him out and tied him to a tree before brutally assaulting him with sticks and rods. They even singed his body by pouring boiling water.
Upon hearing his screams, some villagers called the police control room after which a team of cops reached there and shifted the critically injured youth to a hospital where he succumbed to burn injuries.
Later, a case was registered and Anita, her brother Anil Kumar, father Sunil Kumar, mother Seeta Devi, sister-in-law Reeta Devi were arrested while a kin Dinesh absconded.
Meanwhile in Ferozabad, a girl committed suicide after the police refused to act against a complaint of constant sexual harassment.
As per reports, a young girl from Marshalganj in Narhi area was being harassed by a local identified as Vipul. The miscreant filmed her while she went out to relieve herself and sent the pictures to her relatives.
Upon learning about this, her brother lodged a complaint with Vipul’s family. But instead of chastising the pervert, the kin assaulted the brother, after which he lodged a report with the police.
However, the cops took no action which emboldened the miscreant and he continued to stalk the girl and make advances. Unable to undergo the trauma any more, the girl consumed poison to end her life.
The police have now registered a case against Vipul and his kin and efforts are being made to arrest them.
In Sonbhadra, two miscreants entered the house of  Sant Kumari (30) in Majholi hamlet of Obra and tried to force themselves on her on Tuesday night. She had left her husband some time back and had been living at her parent’s place.
After she raised alarm, they attacked her with an axe and tried to escape. However, the locals nabbed them and handed them over to the police. The victim was later shifted to a hospital where she succumbed to injury.
