A rape survivor in Ambedkar Nagar district ended her life by allegedly committing suicide after the police did not act on her complaint and even reprimanded her for pursuing her case.

The father of the deceased victim alleged that his daughter had even gone to the office of the superintendent of police where she was scolded and asked to return home.

"After this, she took the extreme step of ending her life," he told reporters.

"On September 16, my daughter had gone to school but did not return home. We filed a missing complaint with the police but no action was taken. She came back after two days and told us that she had been taken to Lucknow by two youths who raped her in a hotel room," the victim's father told reporters.

The father alleged that the police were exerting pressure on his daughter to go for a compromise in the case. He said the girl had even told the Malipur police that she would commit suicide if they did not take action.

Superintendent of Police Ajit Sinha, said, "Medical examination of the girl was done in this case. On the basis of the statement, rape by two people has been confirmed. Action will be taken by registering a case against the unknown persons. Senior police officials visited her home after we learnt of the suicide. We will take action in the matter with promptness," the SP said.

Sinha said that a departmental inquiry had been ordered against Malipur Station House Officer Chandrabhan Yadav for ‘closing’ the case file.

Meanwhile, the district magistrate admitted that there was negligence in dealing with the case and a team had been formed under the chief development officer (CDO) for investigation.

Earlier, District Magistrate Samuel Paul N met the victim's family members and assured them of strict action against the accused. He also promised to provide them with financial assistance.

Meanwhile in Jhansi, a 17-year-old girl immolated herself, police said on Wednesday. The police also found a suicide note left behind by the girl, based on which they registered a case of abetment to suicide.

According to the police, the incident was reported from Garwa village which falls under Lahchura police station of the district. Police said that the girl, identified as Shilpi, left behind a suicide note in which she said that the reason for her taking the extreme step was that she was having an affair with a boy and their affair had gone wrong.

The girl was heartbroken and in a state of depression she killed herself last Monday night.
