Depressed with sexual advances by local goons and questionable police inaction, a 17-year-old girl jumped before a speeding train to end her life in Etawah on Saturday morning. Last Wednesday,  the victim’s family had submitted a complaint alleging that a local goon was making sexual advances at the girl with the Balrai police station.

SHO of Balrai, Brijendra Singh refused to register a case and did not initiate any follow up action. When the victim pleaded with the SHO to take action, he allegedly shooed her away from the police station after hurling expletives at her. Later, the police did not take any follow up action. Depressed with the police conduct and inaction, the girl jumped before a speeding train on Delhi-Howrah rail route near Balrai station.

A senior official said that now a case has been registered and efforts were being made to arrest the accused. The SP City has been asked to probe the police apathy and initiate action against the errants.

Meanwhile in Bulandshahr, a 19-year-old girl was killed by her brother to save `family honour’ just a day before her marriage at Khurja on Saturday.

The marriage of Islamudeen’s youngest daughter Firdaus was to take place at Khurja on Sunday and their house was bustling with relatives busy making arrangements.

Earlier, Firdaus of Islamabad was having an affair with her cousin Kasim from Khurja. After the wedding was fixed, a frustrated Kasim sent some objectionable pictures with Firdaus to her elder brother Feroz on his mobile on Friday night. He also threatened to make those photos public if she went ahead with the marriage. Annoyed with this, Feroz shot his sister Firdaus on Saturday morning and later surrendered before the local police. A case was registered and the accused was sent to jail.

Meanwhile in Mahoba, a 50-year-old widow was raped and impregnated by a man from her village in City Kotwali police station area after which the woman lodged an FIR on Friday. She accused Akhilesh Ahirwar of barging into her house on December 7 last year and raping her.

The woman claimed that she was pregnant and alleged that the accused threatened to kill her. Efforts were on to nab the accused, who was absconding.
