Uttar Pradesh urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan said that the cancellation of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi due to rains was nothing but a drama of the BJP.
He also suggested that in order to avoid any such problem in future, PM should lay the foundation stone or inaugurate the developmental and welfare projects from his PMO.
"This is depressing to know that Prime Minister cancelled his visit to Varanasi only because of rains. He should have come and met people there. It is a history that Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had never missed any rally. He has even addressed meeting in pouring rains,” he said.
In a statement issued here on Sunday Khan said that BJP always played with the sentiment of the masses and cancellation of PM's visit to Varanasi was a cruel joke with the people of Varanasi.
"Never in the past Mulayam Singh Yadav was stopped by rains or any other calamity to address any public meeting," he claimed.
Alleging that the BJP government had done nothing for Uttar Pradesh even in Varanasi the constituency of PM, Khan said all the development and infrastructure work like sewage, underground electrification, drinking water, beautification of ghats in Varanasi were either done on the directives of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav or by his urban development department.
“We are short of money. We will complete the development work initiated by the Akhilesh Government,” he said.
Earlier PM cancelled his Varanasi visit on Sunday due to heavy rains when he was scheduled to inaugurate the Trauma Centre at BHU and lay foundation of other development projects worth over Rs 1000 crore.
