The sixth convocation ceremony at Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University turned out to be a grand affair with students

turning up in the prescribed dress code to collect their degrees and medals As many 82 medals and 813 degrees were to be distributed to the students at the function out of which 519 students turned up for the occasion.

The arrival of PM Narendra Modi at BBAU made the convocation extra special for the students, even if their wish to receive degrees from the PM did not actualise. However, the common refrain among the student community was that their convocation will stand out in history with the PM gracing the occasion.

“I never thought that my convocation was going to be special. No doubt, I can brag for years that the PM was present at the function, and my university played host to a PM who was the chief guest,” said MPhil student, Sundaram.

“There is no lack of resources to avail information. We have internet facility but it’s we who have to learn how to use information for our good and learn to discard useless information. The statement of the Prime Ministers in his speech will definitely be followed”, said an Msc in Industrial Micro-biology, Shulogna Banerjee.

“I am a science student and want to pursue the career of an academician. I want to pass on to the students the PM’s message that there was no dearth of information and one should understand that there was a thin line between the use and misuse of information,” she added.

Varsha Singh, who passed the MA in Sociology, said : “It feels great that our convocation was different from our seniors. Whether it was ditching the traditional robes and introduction of new Indian attire or it was having a PM as the chief guest for the function.|

The convocation function was however temporarily disrupted with two llM students Ram Karan Nirmal (Gold Medalist) and Surendra Nigam shouting anti-Modi slogans and being detained by the police. later the students were released on personal bonds. A University official said that a decision about these students will be taken by the Board of Management.
