Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the 14 newly elected Mayors of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to work for the development of the cities and implement the urban development policies of the central and state governments in their respective municipalities effectively.
“The face of the city can be changed if Mayor of Corporation wishes to do that. Involve people in keeping the city clean. The central and state governments have policies of urban development. The Mayors should ensure that benefits of those policies should reach the people,” Modi told the Mayors who called on him in New Delhi on Tuesday.
All the 14 Mayors including Chairman of Amethi Nagar Panchayat and Chairman of Jais Nagarpalika Parishad met PM. Both Jais Nagarpalika Parishad and Amethi Nagar Panchayat are part of Amethi parliamentary constituency represented by Rahul Gandhi. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and State president of the party Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey were also present in that meeting.
“Winning elections is easy but living up to the expectations of people is difficult. Be in touch with masses so that you can understand the problems of the people better,” Modi said.
PM also congratulated Yogi and Dr Pandey for leading BJP to a spectacular victory.
All the BJP Mayors and the Nagar Panchayat and Plaika Chairman of Amethi and Jais respectively will go to Gujarat where local BJP will felicitate them. “If asked we will also take part in the election campaign,” Sanyukta Bhatiya, the Mayor elect from lucknow said.
