PGV slams Centre for galloping price rise

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra targeted the Union government for rising inflation and expressed concern over the prices of potato and onion going through the roof.

On Tuesday, the Congress leader tweeted, “In the last one year, prices of potatoes increased by 100 percent and onions by 50 percent. The Union government is the enemy of the farmers and the poor.”

Raising the issue of farmers not getting the right price for their produce, Priyanka tweeted, “While on one hand the public in general is suffering due to rising prices of vegetables, farmers on the other hand are not getting the right prices. Seed prices and debt burden is also adding to their woes.”

Meanwhile, welcoming the Allahabad High Court’s dismissal of a petition to stay the arrest of suspended Superintendent of Police of Mahoba, Manilal Patidar, UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said that it was beyond comprehension as to why the Yogi Adityanath government was trying to save the corrupt officer.

Lallu further questioned why the police officer was not being arrested after the petition was dismissed by the court.

“At whose behest is the Yogi regime doing this favour to the officer?  Why is a government that claims zero tolerance towards corruption, is being kind to a tainted police officer? The government should explain which cabinet ministers are involved in illegal mining as they are the one protecting the tainted police officer till date,” he alleged.

The Congress leader pointed out that while the then SP of Mahoba, Mani Lal Patidar, allegedly demanded Rs 6 lakh as extortion from mining contractor Indra Mani Tiwari, the latter submitted a written complaint but no action was taken and instead the contractor was gunned down.

“A case was registered at Kotwali Mahoba on September 10 and the government handed over the probe to a SIT which later said that the matter was one of suicide. The SP was suspended on charges of corruption but he has still not been arrested. Why?” the UPCC chief asked.
