Congress general secretary and party in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held an impressive roadshow for party candidate Rakesh Sachan in Fatehpur parliamentary constituency on Saturday.

On reaching Fatehpur from Kanpur, Priyanka was given a rousing welcome everywhere she went. People showered petals on her and raised pro-Congress slogans.

While speaking to women residents at Aunga locality , the Congress leader assured them that her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi never made any false promises.

“You will get Rs 72,000 in your accounts directly. Do not heed to any criticism and do not be misguided by anyone,” Priyanka assured them.

The women in turn said that on coming to power, the Congress should ban liquor in the region as it was affecting their families. They also asked for jobs.

Addressing people at roadside meetings during the roadshow, Priyanka narrated the benefits of Congress manifesto, particularly NYAY through which the poor have been promised Rs 72,000 a year.

“Rahul bhaiya has studied all the implications about NYAY and after being satisfied that it will have no adverse impact on the country’s economy, he announced the scheme,” Priyanka said amid cheers from the crowd.

At another meeting, Priyanka alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was discriminating against martyrs. “A martyr’s family has to be given respect and honour across political lines but the BJP is trying to divide martyrdom on political lines, which is condemnable,” she said.

The Congress general secretary also alleged that the BJP had weakened the MGNREGA as now small works in villages were being done by machines.

During the entire 2-km-long roadshow, Priyanka kept waving at the enthusiastic crowd and party workers and held small meetings wherever she found people in large numbers.

At Kanpur airport, Priyanka was welcomed by former Union minister and Congress candidate Sri Prakash Jaiswal and other party leaders.

Priyanka was expected to return to Delhi late Saturday evening after visiting some localities to campaign for Congress candidate from Kanpur, Sri Prakash Jaiswal.

Earlier on Friday, Priyanka participated in a roadshow in favour of party candidate Dolly Sharma in Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency. Sharma is pitted against sitting MP and BJP candidate General (Retired) VK Singh.
