Petty dispute between two class 7ths student on an inter college in Bareilly took communal colour just after a cleric and his supporters intervened into the matter and reportedly manhandled the college staff and local police, and later also demanded action against the station house officer on Wednesday.

Senior offices reportedly intervened in the matter and tried to defuse the situation by assuring action against the cops if they were found guilty of misbehaving. However, tension prevailed as staff of the College as well as of other colleges came in support of the police and had threatened to close down all the institutions if local administration bowed down to the excesses of members of minority community. Heavy police deployment has been made in the area to avert any communal clash.

Reports said that two students both belonging to minority community, studing in class 7th at a inter-college in Prem Nagar area of Bareilly had a tiff on which their teacher, belonging to other community intervened and asked both the students that they should not fight with each other. Subsequently both the students went back to their class-room but the matter took an ugly turn when parents of both the students along with a cleric reached the college. They reported manhandled the teacher, abused and threatened them, alleging that he (teacher) had assaulted the students. Finding the situation tense, the college principal called the local police on which inspector, Vidyaram Diwakar, who is incharge of Prem Nagar police station rushed to the college and brought the parents to his police station asking them to file complaint if they had any grievances but not indulged in violence.

Reports further said that the matter again took an ugly turn when the cleric also reached the police station along with his supporters and this time they reportedly scuffled with the cops. Finding the situation taking a worse turn, the cops called senior officers who rushed along with magistrate. To defuse the situation, the officers asked cleric to gave their complaint about cops misconduct in writing so they would conduct an enquiry and take appropriate action if anyone was found guilty. The cleric demanding removal of the station house officer and other cops left the police station.

later the college teacher who stopped the students for fighting also reached the police station along with his colleagues and had lodged a complaint that the parents and some other unknown persons had assaulted and threatened him with dire consequences after barging inside the college premises. The teachers also threatened to close down all the educational institutions if action was not taken against the guilty parents and their goons. They also warned of dire consequences if action has been taken against the cops who came to maintain law and order in the college premises.
