Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that Indians would never forgive Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inflicting pain on them by banning high value notes.
Addressing a public meeting after concluding his Vikas Rath Yatra at Rampur on Saturday, Yadav said that the people have suffered immense sufferings due to the myopic decision of demonetisation which has also jolted the development of the country.
The second leg of the CM’s Vikas Yatra commenced earlier in the day from Moradabad. The earlier one was taken out from lucknow to Unnao on November 3.
Speaking on the issue, the CM said, ``The NDA government cited three reasons for banning high value notes – fight corruption, flush out black money and fight the menace of counterfeit currency. None of these will be met as banning currency is no solution to the these problems. There may be short terms gains but at the huge cost to the masses and the economy.’’
``How are you going to stop the contractors and officers from taking bribes and commission IJ They will devise other novel means. There may be temporary check on generation of black money, but the problem is set to bounce back,’’ said Yadav.
``People of the country will never forgive the government which gives them pain. The entire country is groaning under the pain of cessation of high value notes while the government is rigid on its decision. The scarcity of currency notes in banking system will not ease in the next 50 days and will at least take six months,” the CM asserted.
Queeringthe decision, Yadav said, ``No one had ever imagined that they would have to stand in queues in banks for withdrawing their own money. The currency crisis is so severe that the people were forced to dig out money from piggy banks of their kids.’’
Puching holes in the demonetization policy, the CM said, ``There are certain rituals during marriages where cash payment is made to the ‘panditji’ and the ‘nau’. Now the government wants you to pay them through electronic means and through card swipe machines.’’
Cautioning the people against the designs of BJP leaders, Yadav said, ``They can create any issue at the drop of a hat. The Union government conducted surgical strikes across the line of Control in Kashmir. Yet, there is no let up in clashes and the jawans are still dying on the border.’’
“The Samajwadi Party never had any truck with the BJP and will not have any in future. The SP has always fought for secularism and liberal values,” said he.
The CM further said,” The BJP is claiming to introduce the Bullet Train in the country. But we have introduced Metro Rail in three cities of UP and the project will soon be operational in lucknow.”
Earlir on Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav laid the foundation stones of several development projects in Moradabad and also in Rampur. He also promised to look into demands for development of Rampur made by Urban Development minister Azam Khan, who is the local MlA from Rampur
