People will give befitting reply to PM in Assembly polls

Taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on note ban, Mulayam Singh Yadav said that it would not be his party but instead the voters of UP, who will give a befitting answer to the PM during the UP Assembly polls.

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Mulayam also questioned the BJP on its promise to deposit Rs 15 lakh into each bank account and sought to know from journalists present whether the BJP had ever spoken the truth.

"During the 2014 lok Sabha polls, Narendra Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in the account of each voter. Did he fulfil the promise IJThe people have been silent for 30 months, but they will certainly ask him about this during the Assembly polls,’’ said the SP chief.

Yadav said that the ban on the high value notes has ruined the farmers, landless farm labour and small traders as notes were reduced to scrap after demonetisation. He said that the SP government consistently worked for the poor and downtrodden. "The SP government proved that if there was commitment and resolve then lot of things like free medical treatment, free education and free irrigation to farmers could be given by the government," he said.

Praising the PM for rising from a modest background, Mulayam criticised him for not fulfilling his electoral promises. He said that one who wins in UP, will go on to win at the Centre and claimed that polls might take place before February 28.

In an obvious reference to the bitter feud within the party, Mulayam Singh said, "The need of the hour is to close our ranks and work unitedly for the success of party candidates. But are we united IJ"

He added, "You may have grievances against me and the party. We will meet again after the elections and settle all issues and if the party forms the next government after the elections then everybody will be feliticitated.’’
