Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Tuesday that people want change and they are geared up to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He claimed that the people of UP are firmly behind the Samajwadi Party.
Without naming the Congress or the proposed united front of the opposition parties, Akhilesh said different political parties with strong support base in different states will give a tough fight to the BJP. “In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections , the Samajwadi Party and its allies will win a majority of the Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
“Manipulation, machinations, defections and splitting the parties will not work for the BJP in 2024. The BJP engineered the split in the Sharad Pawar-led NCP in Maharashtra. They have been doing such operations for the last nine years in different states,” the SP chief said.
He alleged that the BJP had been consistently insulting the people’s mandate by splitting political parties and engineering defections.
Accusing the BJP of promoting political corruption by engineering defections and breaking the parties, the SP chief asked: “The BJP is in the habit of claiming to fight corruption, but is breaking political parties not a case of corruption?”
He said that by indulging in such acts like the one in Maharashtra, the BJP was damaging the most basic institution of democracy — political parties.
