Novel coronavirus positive cases continue to show a spurt in Uttar Pradesh as 236 more people have tested positive across the state in the last 24 hours prompting officials to issue a fresh warning on Saturday, asking people to follow the Covid protocol in letter and in spirit.
A government spokesman said that 152 COVID-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours and at present there were 1,087 active cases in the state.
Over 90 per cent of the COVID-19 patients are being treated at home, the officials claim.
“Genome sequencing has shown that the new COVID-19 cases are of the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus. This is not so lethal and people should not panic. Still, people should follow the Covid protocol because the spread of coronavirus infection may be under control but the virus is still active,” the spokesman said on Saturday.
He said aggressive vaccination was an integral part of the comprehensive strategy of the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government to contain the pandemic, along with adherence to Covid appropriate behaviour.
He said amid rising cases of COVID-19 in other states, vaccine cover would aid in controlling the spread of the virus in Uttar Pradesh.
Standing on the top, Uttar Pradesh has so far administered over 33.24 crore doses of Covid vaccine. Out of these, over 17,48,68,307 are first doses, while over 15,42,43,354 individuals are fully vaccinated.
In terms of percentage, over 94 per cent of the adult population is fully vaccinated and 100 per cent has received one dose of the vaccine.
In the age category of 12-14, over 91.44 per cent of the children have received at least one dose of the vaccine while over 47 per cent in this age category are fully vaccinated.
Committed to providing additional protection cover to the people, Uttar Pradesh started administering booster shots (precaution dose) from January 10. Over 32.91 lakh ‘precaution doses’ have been administered in the state so far.
