With veteran Ahmad Patel being appointed as the treasurer of All India Congress Committee by party chief Rahul Gandhi, workers and leaders of the state Congress unit are hopeful about proper financial handling of the party affairs. Earlier, Patel was the political secretary of former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Interestingly, UPCC does not have a full-time treasurer after state chief Raj Babbar removed SP Darbari some months back. “Patel’s appointment as treasurer is a welcome move as the party needs an active member capable of handling finances at the crucial time of 2019 Parliament elections,” said UPCC general secretary Vinod Kumar Mishra in lucknow on Tuesday.
Mishra said that it was a healthy sign that party chief Rahul Gandhi was revamping the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and making the party battle ready for the 2019 poll.
Earlier, a senior Congress leader from the minority community had written to Rahul Gandhi this month asking him to clear the air about replacement of UPCC chief Raj Babbar and UP incharge Ghulam Nabi Azad. He had also said that he would meet Rahul after Bakrid and remove the confusion about the two leaders in district and city units so that the leaders and workers could work unitedly for the next poll.
