The state unit of BJP said that in an attempt to win minority votes for forthcoming lok Sabha elections the political parties were trying to eulogise criminals caught in the terror acts.
"There is a mad rush among political parties to side with minorities. In that rush CPM top leader Prakash Karat said terror accused Khalid Mujahid was killed in police custody. This is a serious allegation. The CPM leader should tell people what is the source of his information," Pathak said here on Tuesday.
During his daily briefing he said that the psudo secular parties have taken up the cudgel to prove Khalid Mujahid as innocent. This is being done to win sympathies of Muslims now, and votes in the forthcoming lok Sabha election, he said.
"The Samajwadi Party has also used Khalid Mujahid’s death to win sympathies of Muslims. The state government paid Rs 6 lakh a compensation to the family members of the deceased. In the past also people have died in police custody but never government had paid such hefty compensation," Pathak said. He asked political parties to stop using Khalid’s death as a tool to derive political mileage. This destroys the morale of the police which is detrimental for the state, he said.
